Historic Trails

Pacific Skyline Council has three designated trails where hikers may earn a patch for completing the trail. Details on each of the respective trails may be found in their accompanying trail guides. All of the patches (and medal) are available to anyone who completes the respective hikes: Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, family, friends, etc.

Historic Trail patch loop - 3-Camps TrailThe Pacific Skyline Council Camps Historic Trail is a 12.4 mile hike linking the three camps of the old San Mateo County Council that were located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. It follows existing trails from Camp Pescadero situated in Memorial Park to Camp Pomponio in the heart of Pescadero Creek County Park to the boundary of Big Basin State Park and along China Grade Historic Trail medal - Pacific Skyline Camps Trailinto Cutter Scout Reservation. Although it is nicely shaded under a forest cover for most of its length, the trail is moderately strenuous due to a long climb up Butano Ridge and has a net elevation gain of +1730 feet from start to finish. A patch and medal may be earned for completing the hike.

Historic Trail patch loop - Redwood Historic TrailThe Redwood Historical Trail is located at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation. Only three and a half miles long, but full of interesting facts about the redwood tree and the redwood logging industry, the trail has 18 stations that weave the story of early California logging history. You will learn how early loggers cut, transported and milled the large redwood trees. You will travel by old logging sites, an old mill site, log slides, and oxen bridge. A patch is available for completing the trail and requirements.

Historic Trail patch - Boulder Creek Nature TrailStarting and ending at the bridge to the Boulder Creek Scout Reservation parking lot, the Nature Trail has 34 stations to find and observe native plants in three ecological zones. A patch is available to those completing the roughly three and a half mile hike.
