The Purpose of the Order of the Arrow is:

1. To recognize those campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
2. To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
3. To promote Scout camping
4. To develop the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others

Candidates for the Order of the Arrow are elected by their peers within their troop not solely for what they have done, but primarily for what they are expected to do in the future in their service to the welfare of others. Elected Candidates have already demonstrated an acceptance and adoption of the ideals of Scouting outlined in the Scout Oath and Law.

The organization provides leadership training and service opportunities at all levels in the Boy Scouts of America to build upon the experiences and knowledge you have already worked so hard to achieve. We would hope that you take what you learn back to support your unit.

During the Ordeal weekend, Candidates and active members camp out and cheerfully participate in service projects. The Ordeal experience is unlike any other experience. Candidates should be prepared to spend a night sleeping under the stars and work on a number of service projects in the day followed by an Order of the Arrow induction ceremony and a lodge-wide banquet.

After 10 months of service as an Ordeal member and fulfilling certain requirements, a member may take part in the Brotherhood ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting and the Order.  To ensure a successful Ordeal weekend, we need your help as an Elangomat, Ceremonies Team member, or general staff member; this will help fulfill the Brotherhood service requirements, too.  Completion of the Brotherhood ceremony signifies full membership in the Order.

Additional information is available on the lodge website at http://ohlone63.org/.  Registered attendees will receive additional logistical emails to prepare them for the weekend's events.
