  1. Youth Protection Training - every two years
  2. Fast Start Training - online only. An overview of the Scouting program and your specific responsibilities.
  3. This is Scouting - online only. An introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, methods and funding.
  4. Intro to Cub Scouting
  5. Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific Training - Specialized knowledge for each leadership role; Tiger, Cub Scout, Webelos, Committee and Cubmaster. On completion of this step, the Trained patch has been earned.
  1. Youth Protection Training - every two years
  2. Fast Start Training - online only. An overview of the Scouting program and your specific responsibilities.
  3. This is Scouting - online only. An introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, methods and funding.
  4. Scoutmaster/ASM Position-Specific - Specialized knowledge for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters -OR- (choose #4 or #5). Note: after clicking the link, scroll to bottom of Council Training Courses page and make a choice from the "Please Select a Program" drop-down menu to get started.
  5. Troop Committee Challenge - available online. Specialized knowledge for committee members. After the committee members complete this step, they may wear the Trained patch.
  6. Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills - Required outdoor training for Scoutmasters and ASMs. The training is based on the outdoor skills in the Boy Scout Handbook. On completion of this step, Scoutmasters and ASMs may wear the Trained Patch. Note: after clicking the link, scroll to bottom of Council Training Courses page and make a choice from the "Please Select a Program" drop-down menu to get started.

Commissioner Training - Monthly District Roundtables
Do you want to know more about what’s going on and where to go for information? Go to your monthly District Roundtable for Cub Scout leaders and Boy Scout leaders! These are open to all leaders and interested adults. Here you will find all the information about upcoming events and program, and there is usually a short training topic and lively discussion with your peers from other packs and troops.
Date/Time: All three District Roundtables are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7:30pm.
Discovery District: 977 Sneath Lane, San Bruno, Tongan Cultural Center, LDS Church

Basic Archery Instructor's Course
This course covers the basics of archery which includes Range Safety, How to shoot a bow, How to select equipment for beginner shooters, How to teach beginner shooters, How to run a basic program, Sample lesson plans, How to teach simple drills and skills to to new archers. This course is for those who are willing to teach a group of non-shooters or basic shooters. Passing this course qualifies you to become a merit badge counselor upon NAA Certification.

Cub Scout Archery & BB Gun Range Officer Training
1-day Course

This course gives the basics of archery and BB gun instruction, range operations, and shooting skills so you can run an effective archery or BB gun program for Cub Scouts and Webelos. We’ll do archery in the morning, rifle range in the afternoon.

HAT - High Adventure Training
A council-developed course designed to teach Scout leaders to safely lead outdoor adventures. Hands-on training, formal presentations, and exciting patrol field exercises to test your skills. Vital for leaders of wilderness trips one or more days from the trailhead. Valuable for all Scouters participating in outdoor programs. Youth leaders are welcome.

Muzzle Loading Rifle Instructor Course
This course gives the students the skills, knowledge and attitude to become a muzzle loading rifle instructor who can teach the basic muzzle loading rifle shooting program. Skills learned are how to teach, shooting positions, body positions, shot mechanics, sight picture, parts of a rifle, ammunition, Winchester marksmanship program, shooting activities, practical exercises, loading a muzzle loading rifle, safety aspects of muzzle loading rifle shooting, safe gun handling, cleaning and care of muzzle loading rifles, shooting skills development. Passing this course qualifies you to become a muzzle loading rifle shooting merit badge counselor upon NRA Certification.

This course is designed to give the students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to run a range safely. Skills learned include RSO roles and responsibility, range standard operating procedures (SOP), range inspection, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, range briefings which include emergency procedures. Does not cover shooting instruction.

Snow Camping & Winter Safety
Continue your Troop’s outdoor adventures year-round! This course is a must for leading Scouts in fun and safe snow camping and winter backpacking trips. Emphasis is on safety and learning tricks and techniques to maximize warmth and minimize equipment costs. Gain hands-on experience with snow camping and constructing snow shelters. Wilderness First Aid
Learn what to do when someone calls for help in the woods and they get YOU. This course meets the new BSA Wilderness First Aid training standards. Course Topics Include: Carrying Out the Plan, Emergency Action Steps, Checking the scene, patient, and resources, contacting Help, Long-Term Patient Care, Patient Assessment & Record, Preventing Disease Transmission, Prioritizing Care, Treatment of Injuries such as: wounds, head & spinal injuries, extremity injuries, abdominal injuries, sudden illnesses, major bites and stings, other types of back country miseries.
Cost: $75, includes course, book and certification. $50, if you do not need the book or certification.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed six-day outdoor program designed to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience that they can use in their home troops/crews and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. This training is open to Boy Scouts and Venture Crews (male and female).
