ECSI - BSA WILDERNESS FIRST AID

May 22nd - 8am to 7pm

Boulder Creek Scout Reservation

LEARN WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMEONE CALLS FOR HELP IN THE WOODS AND THEY GET YOU

THIS COURSE MEETS THE NEW BSA WILDERNESS FIRST AID TRAINING STANDARDS

A well-trained volunteer with the first aid skills taught at this course will be an asset to any High Adventure Unit.

Prerequisites: You must be currently certified in CPR and be at least 14 years old.

Course Topics Include:

Carrying Out the Plan

Emergency Action Steps

Checking the scene, patient, and resources

Contacting help

Long term patient care

Patient assessment and Record

Preventing Disease Transmission

Prioritizing Care

Treatment of injuries such as:

Wounds

Head and Spinal Injuries

Extremity Injuries

Abdominal Injuries

Sudden Illnesses

Major Bites and Stings

Other types of backcountry miseries

This is a blended learning course, meaning you must complete the lecture portion of the course online at your own pace prior to May 22nd, then attend skills and scenario sessions consisting of hands on practice under the supervision of certified instructors. Be prepared for any weather possibility, this class will go on rain-or-shine. After registering you will be e-mailed needed information including a list of items to bring, other session details, and how to access the online portion of the class.

For those who would like it, blended learning CPR is available by appointment after 4 pm on the 21st.

FEES: $40.00 Materials Fee, which includes the BSA Wilderness First Aid field guide and expendable First Aid supplies

$35.00 for ECSI - BSA Wilderness First Aid – field practicum and certification which is valid for two years.

$25.00 for ASHI CPR/AED - this certification is valid for two years.
