What is Scouting?

The Next Generation of Bay Area Leaders

Scouting is a youth program that gives children and teens the chance to explore the outdoors, build lifelong skills, and grow into confident leaders—all while having fun with friends.

Through hands-on activities like camping, hiking, community service, and STEM projects, Scouts learn teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving in a safe and supportive environment. Scouting is open to all families, and it’s designed to help kids discover their best selves while making memories that will last a lifetime.

Mission of Scouting America

"The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law."

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Scout Oath

“On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”

Changing Lives in Our Community

Our goal is to serve an increasing number of at-risk youth and families from our diverse local communities and to develop strong programs for these youth. The council’s ScoutReach Program provides funding to support packs and troops including hiring paraprofessional staff to serve as Scoutmasters and Cubmasters, and subsidizing registration fees, uniforms, manuals, field trips and camp outings.

The council’s ScoutReach program has served over 900 youth in 34 Cub Scout packs, Scouts BSA troops, and Venturing crews. Our ScoutReach areas include East Palo Alto, Redwood City, East Menlo Park, Daly City, and Half Moon Bay. The council is fortunate to have partnerships with The Boy’s and Girl’s Club of the Peninsula, Our Second Home of Daly City, American Legion Post #558, St Francis of Assisi, and several after school programs at local elementary schools.
